Humboldt is located in SaskatchewanStaff in the National Microbiology Laboratory volunteered to answer guests’ questions and show how a few of the laboratory’s facilities do the job. Scientists that manned exhibits from the lobby mentioned clutches of people asked questions concerning the bugs that they study, the newest ailments they inquire as well as the research they perform to devise vaccines and new therapies.

Dr. Robbin Lindsay, among many senior research scientists that volunteered their Saturday to make the open house a success. Lindsay said the guy had gone to his doctor for a check up but chose to request a scientist what the danger of hanta(virus) had been.

The previous time the high-security building opened its doors to the general public had been five decades ago — to mark its 10th anniversary. That time 1,400 people passed through the doors of this laboratory, part of the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health, the large white building on Arlington Street.

Elizabeth Giles, a research technician in the laboratory, brought her family into the open house, including her mom, her two kids and her daughter’s friend. A lab suit, to shield scientists, was put up to show people the type of equipment they need to wear. Near that, there was also a protest containment-box where scientists encase their fingers in deep gloves and perform through glass at the box to securely deal with the vials of viruses.
